Geographers at York are interested in many aspects of the urban environment within the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. Courses include introductory and advanced courses in urban geography and in subfields such as urban planning for public service provision, public space and the city, gender and immigration in the city, urban social policy, and labour geography among others. The diversity of courses gives students opportunities to engage with contemporary debates about the challenges facing an increasingly urbanized world. Through field work, landscape and policy analysis, and data exploration and mapping, students learn the many techniques used in urban geography.
